The Sacral Belly: The Jelly that Moves Us

About Patricia

Patrica Sullivan shimmers. She shares the yoga practice with boundless generosity and her depth of experience radiates into your being.

We have been studying with her for over 5 years at Lulu Bandha's and each time we gather she has something new and brilliant to share. Her Iyengar roots make her teaching clear and precise, but her heart and capacity for Love allow for penetration.

Her thoughtful and quiet presentation of the practice never overwhelms, but instead creates the conditions in which the teaching of yoga can happen.

About the Workshop

In this workshop we will explore the six directions of spinal movement starting from the sacral belly and the sacrum bone. Once integrated, these  intentional movement patterns—whether in dynamic action, or alert  stillness—stimulate body and energy as well as mind and heart toward  releasing deeply ingrained habits, unfolding greater freedom and joy on all  levels.

The pelvic or sacral belly acts an energetic hub: a small amount of movement from here magnifies its expression as it moves out to and beyond the  periphery of our body. (Thus, movement from this hub needs to be aligned, as  that magnification can distort as well as free the body and energy.)

When movement is initiated from the sacral belly, and thus the sacrum, and  flows from there toward the periphery, awareness and life force also flow with that movement. The nadis - energy channels - are cleansed a little more  with each breath. As long as we are breathing there is an endless supply of  this life prana, but it can get blocked for many reasons. With awareness and  intention the movement of the prana through the channels of the body can  definitely be enhanced.

Once experienced, this way of working can permeate any style of asana approach, and brings both stability and ease, both prerequisites for the meditation practice which helps us to a cleansing and nourishing of mind and spirit.

Gathering Times and Cost

Each individual class will be self-contained, so you are welcome to register for one session. Yet, the weekend will unfold as a whole and be a cumulative experience.

We encourage you to allow the weekend to be like a yoga retreat as much as posisble.

After the morning Pranayama practice, eat breakfast at Farmer and the Cook and then go on hike or for a swim in the river, rejoining us for the the yoga session in the afternoon. Then allow your evening to unfold into the warm night of the Ojai Valley.

We will gather:

June 27, Friday Night, from 5 to 8pm for Asana

June 28, Saturday Morning from 7 to 8am for Pranayama

and Saturday Afternoon from 1 to 4pm for Asana

June 29, Sunday Morning from 7 to 8am for Pranayama

and Sunday Afternoon from 1 to 4pm for Asana

Individual 3 hour Asana Sessions: $65.

Individual Pranayama Sessions: $20.

From the Mouth of Patricia

After 30-some years of yoga I continue to find great joy in my practice and study.  I feel immense gratitude for the support and guidance yoga has offered me over these years.  I enjoy tremendously the practice of teaching, of sharing with others the practices that can lead us to living healthy, peaceful, harmonious lives.

I continue to study not only classical yoga texts, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, for example, but also the Buddhist teachings. Taoist and Tibetan teachings as well.  I delight in finding the correspondences and overlaps of truth between these approaches as they all attempt to guide us toward our innate spiritual wisdom and compassion.

In my teaching I take great pleasure drawing from all these streams as they converge in the larger ocean of truth of relieving suffering.  My classes include study of  asana, in all its depth and breadth, as well as pranayama and meditation.  We also study and chant the yoga sutras.

I look forward to working with you!
